New Generation Mobile Devices Are Up to Nine Times Faster Than Similar USB 1.1 Drives

SAN DIEGO, September 25, 2003 - Iomega Corporation (NYSE: IOM), a global leader in data storage, today announced that it is now shipping a new generation of flash memory drives: the Iomega® Mini 512MB USB 2.0 Drive and the Iomega Mini 1GB USB 2.0 Drive. With transfer rates of up to 9MB per second, the solid-state drives enable astonishingly fast file sharing between PCs and provide the capacity that mobile professionals need for their portable files.

“We think the new Iomega Mini USB 2.0 drives stand out from competing products based on features and component quality,” said Sean Burke, vice president and general manager of mobile and desktop solutions at Iomega Corporation. “However, what’s really exciting about the Mini USB 2.0 drive is performance. With nine times the performance of previous-generation devices, the new drive is infinitely more practical for managing video clips, Active Disk software titles, and other high-bandwidth applications.”

Built for Speed
The new generation of Iomega Mini USB drives use Hi-Speed USB (USB 2.0) interface technology, which is standard on most new laptops and PCs. The benefit for users is dramatically higher performance: up to 9MB/sec. in reading files and 7MB/sec in writing files -- or nine times faster than drives based on the USB 1.1 standard. The gains in performance make presentations, graphics, photos, music, and videos more portable and easily accessible.

Iomega’s current Mini 128MB and 256MB USB drives have also been updated to the new USB 2.0 standard, with performance of approximately 8MB/sec (read) and 5MB/sec (write).

Key Features
Iomega Mini USB 2.0 drives hold up to 1GB of data, yet require no cables, power adaptors or batteries. They are as small as a car key, have no moving parts, and are plug-and-play compatible—no drivers required—with Windows® Me, 2000, and XP, Linux 2.4.1, and Mac® OS 9.0 and above (Win 98/98SE and Mac OS 8.6 require a separate driver). They are backwards compatible with the USB 1.1 standard, where they operate at slower USB 1.1 data rates.

The Iomega Active Disk™ Software Advantage
Active Disk™ powered titles are designed to launch automatically from an Iomega Mini USB 2.0 drive when it is plugged into any compatible PC. Active Disk titles never need installation, don’t clutter the hard drive, and leave no trace on the host PC—even the user’s related work is stored automatically on the Mini USB 2.0 drive (the Active Disk driver is a one-time install, and is present on computers with IomegaWare installed). The result for mobile professionals is a tool that not only helps them stay organized, but is also completely portable, easy to use, and secure. Over 80 Active Disk titles are available for download at the Iomega Web site, http://www.iomega-activedisk.com.
