New Portable and Desktop Hard Drives
****
Dual Interface Design Gives Computer Users Added Flexibility
SAN DIEGO,
July 18, 2003 - Iomega Corporation (NYSE: IOM),
a global leader in data storage, is now shipping two
new external hard drives with a dual interface design
that provides computer users with a high-capacity data
storage and back-up solution that is both versatile
and easy to use.
The Iomega® HDD 40GB Portable
Hard Drive and the Iomega® HDD 120GB Desktop Hard
Drive now feature compatibility for both USB 2.0 and
FireWire , which makes switching between PC and MAC
computers easy. Each drive includes two standard cable
connections on the back of the drive, one Firewire cable
connection and one USB 2.0 connection (backward compatible
to USB 1.1). Both drives also ship with a USB and Firewire
cable making out-of-the-box, plug-and-play storage possible.
For computer users that wish to switch
between desktop or laptop computer systems or upgrade
an old computer system, the dual interface drive provides
more options than a typical external hard drive. The
Iomega HDD 40GB Portable Hard Drive and the Iomega HDD
120GB Desktop Hard Drive also feature fast rotational
speeds of up to 7200 rpm as well as transfer rates of
up to 480 mb/s, which makes the transfer, backup or
editing of video and other large files more efficient.
"This new product design gives
users who value security and capacity the most comprehensive
solution for backing up their computer's hard drive,"
said Sean Burke, vice president and general manager
of Mobile and Desktop solutions, Iomega Corporation.
"The dual interface allows the drives to be functional
with multiple operating systems which give our customers
more flexibility, while the backup and disaster recovery
software we have included offers a total solution for
trouble-free data back-up."
Backup and Disaster Recovery Software
Included
Both Iomega HDD drives ship with Iomega Automatic Backup
software for full system backups and Symantec® Norton
Ghost® 2003 software for disaster recovery. With
the included Norton Ghost 2003 software, users can capture
an exact image of the PC's main hard drive, including
all system files, settings and installed software. Between
full-system backups, Iomega Automatic Backup software
keeps users protected. This proprietary Iomega software
solution provides automatic incremental backups of designated
directories. Iomega Automatic Backup Software also lets
users create multiple backup configurations, set scheduled
backups as needed, exclude unwanted files (e.g., .tmp
files) from their backups, maintain multiple file revisions
and much more.
Availability
The new Iomega HDD 40GB Portable Hard Drive is available in the U.S.,
Canada and Latin America, and online at www.iomega.com and is priced at $279.99,
and the Iomega HDD 120GB Desktop Hard Drive, which has a slightly larger form
factor, is priced at $249.99 (prices are U.S. suggested retail).
A 60GB portable version and 250GB desktop version of the dual interface
design are expected to begin shipping in early August.
