FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Iomega Smoothes The Move to Windows XP
***
Free Utility Collects and Moves Data and Settings Easily On Iomega Zip Disks

ROY, Utah, October 8, 2001 - Iomega Corporation (NYSE: IOM), a global leader in reliable portable data storage, today began offering a free downloadable utility to Microsoft® Windows® users that streamlines the movement of their files, application settings and system settings to new PCs featuring the Windows XP operating system.

The Iomega utility, available today at www.iomega.com, guides the user through a simple data migration process using Iomega® Active Disk technology, the Microsoft Files and Settings Transfer Wizard and Iomega Zip® disks. This complete migration solution takes a snapshot of the user’s personalized work environment and stores that snapshot on Iomega Zip disks for transfer to the user’s new computer. The result is a convenient two-step migration to new Windows XP computers, preserving the user’s application data, Internet and e-mail settings, font and folder options and other Windows settings.

Bill Anderson, product manager for Management Technologies at Microsoft Corp., said, “For some computer users, migrating data and settings from an old PC to a new computer is one of the most dreaded computing tasks. With Iomega’s two-step process, which leverages the Microsoft Files and Settings Transfer Wizard, users can easily move all of their data to the Microsoft Windows XP platform using rugged and reliable Zip disks. By making the migration path easier, more users will be able to take advantage of the Windows XP operating system, available on October 25, which will allow users the freedom to experience more than they ever thought possible with their computers and the Internet.”

Microsoft recommends using 100MB disks or floppy disks with its Files and Settings Transfer Wizard, and estimates the typical Windows XP user will need to move approximately 200MB of settings and data. Iomega’s rugged 100MB Zip disk stores the equivalent of about 70 floppies and can transfer data more than 10 times faster (actual speed is dependent on Zip interface) for rapid and convenient file migration. By automating Microsoft’s Files and Settings Transfer Wizard with Active Disk technology, Iomega gives users the added convenience of launching the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard automatically from the Zip drive and leaving no trace on the host computer.

“Iomega’s Zip drive and disks, as well as other Iomega portable storage drive systems, make it easy for users to take their data with them to a new computer with Windows XP,” said Germaine Ward, vice president of applications, Iomega Corporation. “The Windows XP platform provides users with rich new experiences, and the best way to enjoy Windows XP is to have full access to all your existing work data, as well as your personal digital images, home videos and other memories. Iomega makes the initial preparation for moving that data simple and automatic.”

Other Iomega storage devices that are compatible with the Active Disk powered Microsoft Files and Settings Transfer Wizard include the 250MB Zip drive and media, the 2GB Jaz® platform, the new 10GB and 20GB Peerless™ drive system, the 40MB PocketZip™ drive, and the 340MB and 1GB Iomega Microdrive™ removable drive for portable devices. The Microsoft Files and Settings Transfer Wizard does not support optical CD-RW drives and discs.

Iomega’s free utility download of the Active Disk powered Windows XP Files and Settings Transfer Wizard is compatible with any PC running Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000 and Me, and is available now at www.iomega.com.
