FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ROY, Utah, February 12, 2001
- Iomega Corporation (NYSE: IOM), a global leader in
data management solutions, today announced that LifeWorksTM
Photo Album software powered with Active Disk technology
is now shipping in English. LifeWorks Photo Album, the
first of many titles in the LifeWorks portfolio, enables
digital photography users to organize, edit and share
images using Iomega software technology that runs completely
from a Zip® disk.
Iomega LifeWorks Photo Album software lets digital
camera owners easily print photos and scrapbooks, create
slideshows, e-mail images and share photo collections
with friends and family. Entire photo albums can be
created, saved onto a new Zip disk, and with Active
Disk technology's auto-play capability, automatically
played on any other Zip-enabled PC. LifeWorks Photo
Album disks function much like traditional photo albums;
hundreds of precious digital memories can be accessed
easily. Archiving images on disks keeps photos organized
and safe from viruses and system malfunctions.
"Iomega's LifeWorks Photo Album answers a direct
need of novice digital camera users: easy photo printing
and sharing from any Windows PC equipped with a Zip
drive," said Germaine Ward, vice president software
solutions, Iomega Corporation. "Because LifeWorks
Photo Album software is so portable, Iomega is capitalizing
on a growing market while further expanding the utility
of the Zip platform."
In 2001, Iomega plans to include Active Disk technology
in an additional 5 to 10 lifestyle and personal productivity
software applications.
Iomega's new LifeWorks Photo Album software package
includes LifeWorks Photo Album software on a Zip 100MB
disk, Active Disk Technology, and an additional blank
Zip 100MB disk for $29.95 (U.S. estimated retail price).
The software bundle is expected on retail shelves by
the end of February 2001. LifeWorks Photo Album is also
currently available for purchase and download at www.iomegadirect.com.
Active Disk Technology
Iomega's Active Disk technology allows users to bypass
the often-cumbersome install and uninstall process because
the software resides completely on a Zip disk. Active
Disk applications automatically configure and launch
once the disk is inserted into a PC, but don't clutter
the hard drive or leave any changes in the Windows configuration
when the disk is removed. They are designed to automatically
save and close when the user hits the eject button,
leaving no trace of the application on the hard drive.
Intuit's Quicken® TurboTax® for tax year 2000
is currently available with Active Disk technology.
Users can easily self-prepare, file a tax return and,
with Active Disk technology, the tax return data file
resides on the Iomega Zip disks together with the TurboTax
application files. Active Disk technology is another
innovation made possible by the Zip platform, with over
40 million drives and 250 million disks shipped to date.
