FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Iomega Adds 1GB Microdrive™ To
Product Offering
ROY, Utah, April 20, 2001
- Iomega Corporation (NYSE: IOM), a global leader in
data management solutions, today announced the availability
of the Iomega® 1GB MicrodriveTM miniature hard drive.
The new drive brings increased capacity, improved low-power
operation and improved shock tolerance to the Microdrive
storage solutions available to Iomega customers.
Iomega announced its Microdrive line with the introduction
of the Iomega 340MB Microdrive in November of 2000.
Iomega's Microdrive, based on IBM's world-class hard
drive technology, is the world's smallest hard drive
for digital cameras, laptops, audio players and consumer
handheld devices. With Microdrive storage, large files
such as photos, presentations and digital audio files
are easily and inexpensively captured, saved and shared.
Fast transfer speeds and easy plug-and-play operation
between compatible devices give the Microdrive added
flexibility.
"Iomega continues its move toward offering a complete
menu of removable storage solutions, and the addition
of the new Iomega 1GB Microdrive is another positive
step," said Doug Collier, senior vice president,
marketing and product management, Iomega Corporation.
"Whether it's saving spreadsheets, presentations,
digital images or music, Iomega provides a number of
solutions to satisfy customers' needs with capacities
ranging from 40MB to 20GB. We are making it easy as
well as affordable for consumers to save and share their
digital lives."
The Iomega-branded Microdrive is currently available
in two capacities: 340MB ($239.95 U.S. retail) and 1GB
($489.95 U.S. retail). Bundles for both the 340MB and
the 1GB that include Type II PC Card adapter are available
for an additional $10. Both drives, available to Iomega
resellers and for purchase on iomegadirect.com, are
supported by Iomega's award-winning customer support
team. As an added value, Iomega will bundle the 1GB
Microdrive with Iomega's QuikSyncTM software for automatic
on-the-fly backup.
