FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan.
5, 2000--Iomega Corporation
(NYSE:IOM), a leader in smart, portable storage solutions,
today announced Macintosh(R) compatibility for its ZipCD(TM)
external Universal Serial Bus (USB) CD-ReWritable (CD-RW)
drive which is expected to begin shipping in Q1 of 2000.
In addition, Iomega plans for future CD-RW drives to
be compatible with Macintosh computers. "Iomega
recognizes the value and importance of Apple's growing
customer base," said David Gantt, vice president
and general manager, optical products, Iomega Corporation.
"We believe many Mac users will find the versatile
ZipCD external USB drive easy to use and a great compliment
to their desktop or laptop computer system." The
ZipCD(TM) 4x4x6 external USB drive will enable Macintosh(R)
computer users to record, archive, share and distribute
up to 650MB of data on a common CD format. Iomega's
ZipCD drives are high-capacity, easy-to-use and ideal
for saving and sharing original music, personal photos,
games, Internet content and more. The USB interface
allows quick and easy installation and "plug-and-play"
capability for the drive. In addition, USB-enabled peripherals
also support faster data transfers that allow video
and audio files to be compiled more easily and rapidly
than peripherals with the "traditional" parallel
port interface. "Apple's continued growth represents
a great opportunity for businesses developing products
for the Mac," said Clent Richardson, Apple's vice
president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "We
welcome Iomega's ongoing support of the platform and
believe Iomega's ZipCD external USB drive will be a
hit among Mac users everywhere." Continuing Iomega's
focus on ease-of-use for customers, the Macintosh-compatible
ZipCD(TM) external USB drive will be bundled with an
array of user-friendly software tools, including: --
Adaptec(R) TOAST(TM) - CD record/copy software for Macintosh
