FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June
27, 2000--Iomega Corporation
(NYSE:IOM), a global leader in data management solutions,
today announced a new online storage service for its
customers. Through a new agreement with SkyDesk, a leading
provider of Internet storage solutions, Iomega will
develop software that enables users to store, access,
transfer and save data and other information to either
an Iomega drive or an online storage location, providing
customers with global data access. Iomega expects to
sell this service to consumers and commercial customers
in the fall of 2000. "Our agreement with SkyDesk
is an important step in maintaining our brand leadership
in data storage, access and protection," said Germaine
Ward, vice president, software solutions, Iomega Corporation.
"Our future software developments will allow users
flexibility in deciding where to secure their data -
on a Zip(R) disk, the desktop or beyond. We also believe
these products will offer an enormous benefit to laptop
users, giving them the ultimate in data protection and
access to files from nearly anywhere in the world."
Iomega selected SkyDesk's technology because of the
company's reputation and proven track record for delivering
effective, easy-to-use and secure Internet-based storage
solutions and services that are endorsed and supported
by industry leading Internet service providers and software/hardware
manufacturers, including Dell, EarthLink, Gateway, Intuit,
@Home, IBM, Compaq and Hewlett-Packard. "Iomega
has a great brand reputation and we are proud to work
with the company on this project," said Jim Till,
SkyDesk's senior vice president of sales and marketing.
"The company's 20-year history in removable storage,
data protection and its extensive customer base and
distribution network paired with SkyDesk's knowledge
and expertise in developing superior online data management
service makes this an ideal partnership." Philip
Mendoza, IDC Client Management Software analyst, said,
"Users like the idea of Internet storage, but the
problem is that there isn't much awareness about the
product offerings. Iomega's strong consumer brand name
together with SkyDesk's back-end services should help
change that." About SkyDesk Founded in 1996 in
